A needed purchase for your suitcase, June 21, 2015

I bought these hoping to save space in my suitcase when my family travels. The bags did help me save space and my suitcase looked organized but not as much space as I had hope for. Nevertheless, I am happy with them and would recommend them.
Pros: I like that they are good quality and most likely will last for a long time. I used the large ones to store my winter clothes (with the help of a vacuum) and so far no air has gotten in.
Cons: Since these are for travel (no vacuum), I found it was very hard nearly impossible to get all the air out.

Here is how I packed my clothes for a recent trip. I tried different ways and found this way to be the easiest and most efficient for me.
    1. We were going on a five-day trip, so I used five bags, one for each day and label the bag (Monday, Tuesday, etc.) to help me identify which bag was which. I only used the medium bags and one medium bag held my outfit, my husband’s outfit, my pjs, husband’s pjs, two undergarments and two pairs of socks.
    2. I folded my clothes neatly and put them all the way into the bag leaving a good portion of the bag empty. I closed the bag using the clip provided all the way but leaving about half-an-inch open for the air to escape.
    3. I then squeezed the bag and tried to get as much air out as I could. It helped tremendously to do this on a flat surface like the hotel floor but I’d lay down a towel first cause you know .. germs and stuff. Then I really just … sat on the bags using my weight to push the air out … of the bag (not the other thing). The final step was to actually roll the bag squeezing the very last air out. Finally, I used the sliding clip and slided it three to four times.
It took for about 5 minutes to pack and squeeze each bag. Not really bad at all and my suitcase looked extremely neat. Plus it was very easy to find what I needed.

Once they send a ‘how to’ product use via youtube, I realized I had sucked the air out of them out all wrong. Now that I know how to use them, they will do the trick for what I need. At first, I tried to suck the air out (the wrong way) and then roll these babies up (again, wrong), but that was NOT saving me space. Once I figured out the proper way of pressing out the air, and then laid them flat at the bottom of my backpack, it was much roomier. At that point, you just play a little ‘tetris’ and stack your flat bags either horizontally or vertically, to get the right maximization of your space (my case, a 35L backpack). I honestly didn’t need the XL sizes for a backpack. Even the Large size was big, but once the air is out, they shrivel up just fine to fit.
Here is what I had to fit in my bags: 2 full regency era dresses and 2 sets of silk gloves (really!) in the Large size-1 pair jeggings, a regular bra, and 2 long sleeve shirts in a Large size-1 workout top, 1 yoga pats, 4 sets undies and sports bra in a Large size-and that is all I needed for a 5 day trip to the UK :) And yes, I had room for 3 pairs shoes (tennis, flats, sandals), socks, toiletry kit, hair ties, ear plugs, neck pillow, sleep mask, water bottle, sunglasses, lumbar pillow, headphones (both muff and the plug variety), my kindle, umbrella, my masquerade mask, but those weren’t put into the bags.

I love to travel but hate paying for extra bags. These space saving vacuum bags make it so I can pack 2 weeks worth of clothes in a 25 inch suitcase. They make organizing my bag easy so finding something is as easy as removing just the right bag without having to take everything out and create the need to repack everything to find that one pair of pants. If you fold the clothes right when you pack them in the vacuum bags it also keep wrinkles to a minimum and best of all, you can pack all the dirty clothes separate from the clean ones as you travel. You can also keep way towels and bathing suits from ruining your other garments. One down side (which is not really a negative, just a cautious warning) is because I can pack more in my suitcase when using these bags, I have to be mindful of the weight limit of my bag going over. Unlike other vacuum bags, these bags DO NOT require a vacuum. You just put the clothes in, zip, and roll to squeeze the air out.they come in multiple sizes, I like the medium size because I think that offer the most arraingement possibilities when packing. Evetually the Seals or zippers will wear out or break, but I view them as disposable and are inexpensive to replace.
