I bought this larger companion to its two smaller matching pieces for an upcoming two week trip in late July. I’d purchased the other two pieces at a Macy’s sale in June. I had never owned Ricardo luggage but it seemed comparable to the Samsonite, Delsey and other more well known brands. Shipping was great–it arrived quickly and all seemed well with the bag–it is extremely light, rolls well and has plenty of space. I decided to use it for my two weeks of military reserve duty out of state to see how much it would hold. It was checked in with Delta Airlines in Jacksonville, FL and arrived in Oklahoma City, unscathed at first glance.

However, when packing the bag to return home 13 days later, I noticed that the stitching that holds the front pocket to the main body of the suitcase was completely loose and was coming out, which would allow anything in the pocket to fall out of the bag. The bag was not heavily packed, and I had nothing in the front compartment. Seemingly a manufacturers error (since there was no other damage and it had been used for 1 flight) I contacted Ricardo Beverly Hills via their web form, explaining the defect and attaching two photographs of the unstitched pocket.

3 days later I got an email reply telling me that I had to mail the 28″ bag to a repair center in far north Georgia (at MY expense), where they would evaluate it, and if they determined it was their fault, repair the bag and ship it back to me. Of course, the problem with this is since the bag is so bulky, the least expensive ground shipping is over $35, and the turnaround time will mean I likely won’t be able to use the luggage for my upcoming trip.

Spending $35 to have a “free” repair on a $150 piece of luggage under warranty, where the damage was noted halfway through its first use, just seems ludicrous to me. I understand that Ricardo may not want to prepay shipping both ways in a blanket manner, but should the bag prove to be defective upon inspection, the customer’s shipping costs should be reimbursed.

I will likely just take the luggage to a local business to have it re-stitched properly at a significant time/cost savings. I will also most certainly stick to more well-known brands such as Delsey, Samsonite, etc. Very disappointing.

I have owned a suitcase Ricardo Beverly Hills for years and I put it through its paces and it has functioned flawlessly. I bought this suitcase out of loyalty to the name but this suitcase failed on it first outing. The stitching on the two fabric handles failed and the suitcase splits open where the handles are located since the stitching has given way. It’s unbelievable that the first time using it this happened. When I retrieved my luggage at its destination I noticed the failure. I don’t know where the quality went but it isn’t in this bag. I want to love it but I can’t.

i have only used the luggage once, for a 2 week trip to Hawaii. So for me it was all about the weight. I needed to put a lot of stuff in there! And it accomplished that nicely. No problem with the quality. Survived the trip without any obvious wear and tear bruises. The swivel wheel feature was not as easy to use as I anticipated. Perhaps, that is not brand dependent….but more feature dependent. It still weighed its fifty pounds full and it was a little harder to move right next to me. I ended up preferring to pull our older luggage that I tilt and pull thru the airport.
