Great suitcase for the most part, September 22, 2013

I bought this for some recent trips, and traveled with it to both China and Germany, for a total of about 10 airport connections and 3 airlines now. It’s held up wonderfully, except for one missing zipper on the front pocket and some scratches on the hard part. Otherwise it looks like new, and feels as sturdy as ever. It is very light as other people have mentioned, and the wheels work great. It can be so much easier to push your luggage than pull it.

The only major thing I don’t like about it is that it opens in the middle instead of on one side like other suitcases do. This seems to be the default for all hard-case luggage I noticed, but it was something I didn’t really think about before I bought it. The reason I don’t like it is that it then takes up twice the floor space to pack/unpack, and doesn’t easily open on the luggage racks you’d find in a hotel room. Again this would be an issue with any hard-case suitcase that opens in the middle, but just something to keep in mind for anyone looking at this. It’s why I haven’t bought it’s smaller companion yet to complete the set.

Also I don’t like that you have to be careful on slanted surfaces with spinner suitcases, lest they roll away from you. Typically it stays put pretty well though. And this again would be an issue with any spinner bag.

So if you want a good hybrid hard-case/soft-case spinner bag, I’ve been happy with it. Just keep in mind the tradeoffs.

Update: After a year of a decent amount of travel across Europe and the US (probably 40 airport & train connections) the other zipper on that front pocket (the pocket that curves along the whole front, not the one that just goes straight across) also came off, and so now that pocket is now pretty much useless. Otherwise it’s held up really well.

we bought 2 Ricardo Spinners and both held up great on our trip to Europe, 4 airplane trips, 15 train rides and rolling them over many uneven surfaces including cobblestone,

This is the best suitcase I have ever had. The pic made me think it was dark blue, but no, it is PURPLE. lol that’s OK. The inside liner is also PURPLE with little stars. That too is OK. The organization and storage inside makes it all worth it. I was also able to put my heavy backpack on the handle and it balanced. That made the countless airport marches so much better. It is also very light. I loaded all kinds of souvenirs for the homeward trip and did not even need to unzip the expansion for space. I will only buy Ricardo from now on! (although maybe not PURPLE)
