Backpack / Cooler for Disc Golf, February 4, 2015
    By

Looks like it will work for what I bought it for. Wanted a backpack for disc golf that could keep some beers cold. It holds 15 or so discs in the top, and 8 or 9 beers with ice in the cooler. Has 2 pockets that will fit a couple iPods, wallet, iphone, ect. Two mesh pockets on side will hold a bottle of water on 1 side and a small speaker and iPod on the other. Stitching on straps looks sketchy so I’m having it double stitched. I can tell getting into the cooler is going to be a pain and am worried about the zipper over time. Overall I am satisfied with the backpack upon first inspection. I will update after I have used it for a few months.

This review is from: Picnic Time Zuma Insulated Cooler Backpack, Black (Kitchen)
I bought the Zuma Cooler Backpack to carry headphones, a book/Kindle, and odds and ends as well as my lunch. I wanted a backpack that would keep my hands free when getting in and out of my car and that would keep my lunch insulated and separate from other items. At work, I like to read and listen to music while I eat lunch, and this seemed to fit my needs perfectly.

The backpack works somewhat well, but it has many downsides.

The top compartment is closed by a pair of drawstrings then covered with a flap. The drawstrings aren’t very effective, and when pulled tight you have to tuck them into the small opening or leave them dangling. Also, they don’t stay tight. The flap is not very great either. The buckle the the flap snaps into can be adjusted but doesn’t stay tight either.

The insulated compartment is roomy but does not stay “rigid” – it collapses, causing the sides to bulge out. It’s awkward to try to get things in and out of it, and accessing it sometimes results in items to come out of the top portion.

The side pockets for drinks don’t work very well either. It’s hard to get a drink into them, and I’ve had drinks pop out while the backpack was on my back. The only thing they seem to be dependable with are the small cans of Red Bull.

Finally, the straps are decent, but the carry handle sewn between the straps is not very good. When trying to use it to hold up the back while accessing either of the compartments, it causes the bag to sag and makes it harder to get anything into or out of the bag.

Overall, it’s a great concept that needs a fair bit of tweaking to perfect.

Note: I ordered this item through another link but this is the actual item I received. — I bought this with the idea of using it on vacation at Disney World. I took it for a test run at the zoo this past weekend and it worked perfectly. I have a family of four, I fit 3 frozen water bottles and 8 sandwiches in the cooler compartment and still had plenty of room to spare. There was more than enough room in the top for all the dry snacks. I am confident this will work great for our trip. It is comfortable enough that we were able to share wearing it with our girls that are 9 and 5. Both said it was comfortable to wear and didn’t bother them. The bag that I received was slightly different than the one pictured. Ours had the side pockets on the outside to place your bottle to keep from having to put it back inside the backpack. I absolutely love it and can’t wait for our trip and the money we will save bringing our own food and snacks! The picture makes it look odd shaped but it is the size and shape of a normal backpack. I have already recommended it to others that I know go on trips and such.
