Grey, not Black, November 9, 2012

I found this bag to be very well-made and stylish. The bag I received contains only Olympia labeling, none of the American Airlines logos that appear in some of the pictures.

The color of the bag is definitely grey, and not black. This worked out well for me since I actually wanted a grey bag and chose black because the bag wasn’t offered in grey. If you specifically want a black bag, this is something to consider. I am very happy with the color and style.

One last note: the 26-inch measurement is from the ground to the top of the bag including the wheels. The bag alone measures 24 inches. I was afraid that the 26-inch size might be too large and find that this 24-inch usable size is just right for me, but if you’re looking for 26 inches of luggage space, you’ll need to look at the larger size.

All in all, I found this to compare favorably with more expensive bags.

I will preface this review by admitting that I haven’t yet traveled with this bag but, frankly, after I use it I probably would lose interest in writing a review on a piece of luggage unless it were very negative. I researched bags quite a bit in the last few weeks on line and at department stores, wanting a bag of this size to visit England and Scotland. What I found were a large number of way overpriced pieces of luggage (What a deal – 30% off $279!) – some name brands and some not. I thought I would take a chance at this more economical model that had pretty good reviews. Anyway, it just arrived today and I’m impressed with the quality for the price. Like others have said, it looks like the color is charcoal gray. Mine was branded with American Airlines. If it splits open and spews the contents all over Edinburgh, I will report back, but I have a feeling I will be using this spinner for years.

March 2014 – I came across this in my reviews and, since I have a few minutes, I’ll provide an update. This bag made it back from Europe in one piece and it has survived other trips as well. I’m glad I made this purchase. The only criticism is minor, at least to me. If you pack your bag on your bed or piece of fabric furniture, the wheels may leave a black mark. Perhaps other pieces of luggage do this as well. Anyway, I generally throw a small towel under the wheels while it is on it’s side just in case. I have not noticed it leaving any marks on flooring, including carpet as it rolls. So I stand by my five star rating.

I’ve had this case for 9 months and already one of those circular vents you see in the front has fallen off and today I had a tear happen that has rendered this case useless. I was simply zippering the case shut when a thread came loose on the bottom of the case. Now I have a 12 inch hole on the bottom of the case where the main compartment shuts. I can no longer take it on trips as it will no longer hold items in the bag. They simply fall out. I should have returned it as soon as I got it. I predicted something like this would happen because the bag’s material is very cheap (think plastic shower curtain liners) and so is the construction. Also be aware that the warranty policy leaves you to pay for shipping to and from equaling a cost of about $40.
