I ordered this bag to replace my old one. It wasn’t that I was unhappy with my old one; I just wanted something that better suited my needs. This bag offers all that I need and more. I has a removable, padded compartment for all of your camera equipment. The best part is that when zippered up it is quite inconspicuous and no one would immediately think that there are hundreds or even thousands of dollars worth of camera equipment inside. It just looks like a traveler’s backpack and that’s what I like about it the most. The top compartment looks confusing with the buckles and all, but it’s actually a clever snap design made for quick and easy access. It’s enough to fit a light jacket and maybe some souvenirs. There’s a neat hidden zipper pocket on the inside where you can keep your wallet or passport or other important documents such as boarding passes, hotel keys, etc… The front and side pockets are good for additional camera accessories, maybe some pens or pencils, and small electronics. As far as build quality goes, that will have to stand the test of time, but it appears to be well built with strong and rugged fabric. It’s not waterproof, but you’re in luck with the rain cover included in a zipper compartment on the bottom side of the bag. I would definitely suggest this bag as a great way of protecting your camera gear, in a way that’s fashionable, practical, and doesn’t scream “Hey, steal me! I have hundreds and hundreds of dollars worth of camera gear in here!”

UPDATE! 10/2/15 – It’s been a little over 2 years with this bag and I still love it! I currently carry one DSLR body with a lens, 2 additional lenses, and a lot of accessories (air blower, extra battery, charger, USB cable, extra SD cards). And that’s only the bottom section and the front pocket! In the side pockets I’ll usually keep a water bottle and a pen and mini notebook, and in the top compartment I’ll usually keep a jacket or something depending on what I’m doing that day. This bag has traveled with me to Arizona and even overseas to Ireland and makes for a nice carry-on bag for flights. The only flaw that I’ve noticed is so minuscule. Occasionally the snap to the front pocket will come undone, but you can easily snap it back on without even taking the bag off your shoulders. It’s easy enough to just reach around to your back to re-snap it.

The structural integrity of the bag is basically nonexistent, December 5, 2013

This bag is not able to hold much in it and the structural integrity of the bag is basically nonexistent. The lower portion will hold one camera and lens plus one additional lens. Anything extra will need to go into the top or one of the side pockets. The problem with the side pockets is that the pocket straps are snapped and the snaps come off the bag very easily. The padded insert can be taken out and placed into another backpack so that is a plus.

This backpack is not very secure since the snaps fall off.

The top portion of the bag will hold small items but it is defiantly not a bag for a day hike. The Koolertron Canvas DSLR SLR Camera Shoulder Bag is the worst Camera bag that I have used and a person will get a lot more for their money by purchasing almost any other Backpack.

Based on first observations, looks great, though no detailed review yet, as I have just received the bag. On the overwhelmingly positive reviews I bought this bag. As this is my first non-Domke bag, I was reluctant to stray away from Domke (been using Domkes since the early 80s), but their prices have sky-rocketed over the years and their low profile designs are seemingly on the way out, opting for a more “stylish” look. The Koolerton has that “I am just a backpack” look that most would not give a 2nd glance, again what I like, low profile. This is my my first camera backpack, I have been a shoulder bag shooter from the get-go, but scaling hills, mountains, treking through forests with a 50lb should bag is cumbersome, clumsy at best and back breaking. I am a former photojournalist who is now working on landscape and nature photography, where a backpack is the only rational option to transport gear. I am making a trip to Central Texas/Hill Country in a week (Enchanted Rock), this should help to determine as to whether I made a good buy or not, stay tuned.

Well, just got back from the Texas Hill Country, sadly the Koolerton did not fare too well. As others have noted, the stiching is so-so at best, on strap failed after 10 minutes of use, fortunately I managed to keep my gear from spilling on the rocky hillsides. Noticed stitching elsewhere on the bag was weakening. Bottom line, I had high hopes for this bag, but sadly, well, you get what you paid for. Should have stuck with Domke backpack.
