I’ve just field-tested this waterproof case for my “Point & Shoot” digital camera (a CANON PowerShot ELPH 100 HS) during a two-week skin-diving vacation in Maui, HI. (My underwater video is at: http://youtu.be/qrT6Lpg6vDs )

Thanks to clear seawater and bright sunlight, this inexpensive combination produced excellent digital images of a wide-range of fishes. (I shot both digital still images and 1280×720 HD movie clips, with an 8 GB memory card). The clear vinyl plastic of the DiCAPac WP-ONE let me clearly view the rear LCD camera screen, and was also flexible enough to let me push the camera’s control buttons. The innovative sealing system (a heavy-duty zip-lock plus Velcro) kept the camera dry, even after repeated use.

    HINTS:
Set the camera in Program mode for “Underwater”. This red boost counteracts the overall blueness that would otherwise occur in underwater images. (Just be sure to switch back to “auto” mode for above-water shots, to avoid “sun-burnt” images!).
Set the camera for wide-angle, since this setting will effectively create a “normal” focal length underwater.
Use paper towels to wipe the outside of the plastic case dry before removing the camera.
A small desiccant pack under the camera will keep the case interior fog-free, and will help to center the camera lens in the glass “porthole”. (I used a desiccant capsule from an OTC bottle of pills).

I tested it with the paper test and it worked fine. Still, I was a little iffy about using it for my Nikon Coolpix S6200 (I was debating on buying a few disposable water cameras) but seeing how it passed the paper test multiple times, I decided to risk it. I was so glad I did.

The squishy case allowed easy access to all the buttons. I was able to switch settings on the camera and preview pictures. The extension ring allowed me to zoom in to a certain extent. The neck strap made it easy to carry the camera around (since I would have lost it if I had to hold it the whole time.)

The con is that there can be a black ring around the pictures if you don’t align it properly. If you align it, then it’s no problem. The pictures can be hard to preview in bright places. It was fine in the shade though.

But I had my camera in the case for a good 6 hours and was able to keep my camera perfectly dry.
    Best ~$22 I’ve ever spent.
