Great soft board bag with wheels, February 23, 2015

I bought this bag before my recent trip to CO and I love it so far. My old bag (over 10 years old) was pretty beat up and was a little small for my new wide board. This bag exceeded all of my expectations. I was in CO for a work conference, and I loved being able to keep my “vacation” stuff separate from my dressier work clothes.

The bag itself seems durable. Baggage handlers can be pretty unkind to luggage. There are no wear spots or little nicks or cuts yet, although I’ve only flown with it twice.

The wheels roll well. I had no issues rolling through a bit of loose snow/ice in the airport parking lot. FYI, they aren’t roller blade type rubber wheels like many bags use. They are a larger plastic wheel with a bit of tread on them. Better than the smooth rubber wheels in snow and ice I guess.

All of the handles (front, back and side) are heavy duty and well stitched. I don’t expect them to cause any problems down the road.

I fit the following gear in the bag. Plenty of space for basically everything I needed to ride. I could have easily squeezed a few more articles of clothing in there, but I was creeping past the airline’s weight limit already.

    2014 Burton Custom X 164 Wide
2014 Burton Cartel EST bindings – attached
2014 Burton Ruler size 13 boots – in the exterior boot pockets
    Helmet/goggles – between the bindings
Long underwear, riding jacket, riding pants and gloves, socks, balaclava – stuffed in main compartment for extra padding

I’m overall very happy with the bag. It’s a bit pricier than many of the board bags on Amazon, but it offers good protection for a soft bag and is built to last. IMO, I can’t see paying a good amount of money for a decent riding setup and then skimping out on a travel bag for it.

I was able to easily fit a 163 and a 167, with the bindings on (binding to binding), into it. Both boards are wide boards due to my big feet. There’s some extra volume and I could probably fit my boots in as well if I had to. The bag itself is very lightweight and has a few big, lined pockets on the outside that I havent explored yet. First trip with it is next weekend (flying). If anything good or bad comes up I will edit this post.

Ordered the 175 cm Low Roller for flying to Denver with my 177 cm skis, poles, boots, ski pants, and two jackets. Everything fit perfectly; both boots in the lower compartment with one ski jacket and pants in the upper. Room for a second jacket and other clothing in the middle. Total weight was only 35 lbs! Everything else, including helmet and goggles, for a 5 day trip fits into a free carry-on backpack. Appears to be sturdy enough to last for years. Well worth the money for this right-sized roller!
