This Backpack is Boss!, February 3, 2012

I bought this online at the beginning of the school year since I heard great reviews and t was pretty affordable…. Let me just say one thing- This backpack is BOSS! I received it in record time and I loved how it had a shipping thingy that let you track it :)

I bought the ‘Houndstooth’ since it was one of the cheaper patterns and I couldn’t be happier! The only thing that made me a bit sad was that the zippers were green rather than pink, as displayed in the picture. However, I have grown to love the color! The inside is somewhat of a circular floral pattern with pixel-looking blocks and smaller flowers here and there. The background is neon green to match the zippers, but the flowers are hot pink and orange, adding a nice pop of color to the otherwise plain pack.

Now onto the pockets (which display the same bright pattern described above)- there are a total of 6, along with a few inner pockets within pockets (pocketception!) and a laptop sleeve inside. The top pocket is positioned at the little handle where the straps meet at the top. It is lined with a velvety kind of material and is meant for sunglasses, but who caries sunglasses to school really? I found that it is perfect to carry your phone, iPod, or other small personal items in. ( Ladies… ;] ) The next pocket is the main one on the front. it has 2 velvet-lined pockets in the middle for your devices, 3 pen/pencil holders, and a zipper pocket for materials. Seeing as I use the top pocket for my devices, I use the little inner pockets for my ID and whatnot…But those little guys work good for your phone as well!
The last pockets are the front pocket (a open slot in the front without a zipper, best used for pencils and other items you take out often), The two side pockets (One has a mesh little pop-out with a draw string to hold a water bottle- super handy! The other does not have one, so it is great for snacks!) and the AMAZING insulated pocket! Oh my gosh, this thing rocks! It is lined with the same material used in lunch bags, and keeps food cold! However, I do not like the placement. Seeing as it is on the front, your sandwich may be squished or your soda may made your bag appear bulky and awkward. Still a pretty cool feature for a backpack, though.

A few other cool things- The straps have a memory-foam type stuff in them- No more sore shoulders! :) And this pack seems like it is made for women in mind- No more squished boobs! The straps are shaped so they don’t go right across your chest. And lastly, this brand comes in a variety of stylish shapes and colors so you will be sure to find one that fits you just right!

A few other NOT so cool things- The bottom is rounded, which gives it a nice look, but it makes it hard to stand up straight and not fall over. :( The shape also makes it look a little…large. even when I only have a few spirals and a binder in it, the rounded shape makes it balloon out and make me look like a little turtle. Which is cute and all, but I wish the material was little less stiff so it wouldn’t pop out or dent inwards when zipped shut.

It has a ton of pockets, adorable pattern on the inside, a nice shape, and durable build! I would totally recommend this to anyone who needs a bag that supplies comfort and storage space! Happy Shopping!!

I’m impressed with the quality of this backpack. The best thing about it is the weight distribution. Before I bought this, I was using a canvas drawstring backpack that had no padding or structure, but I needed something a little more heavy-duty for all the traveling I do. And, very importantly, I needed something with LOTS of pockets. This one delivers.

My first thought when I opened the package was that this backpack would be way too big for me (I’m 5’3,” 110) and I thought it might make me look and feel like a turtle), but I gave it a test run and it’s fine.

The only weird thing about it is the loop at the top: There is a panel of thick fabric at the top of the backpack between the straps where a loop for hanging would usually be. I’ve realized that it’s probably designed that way so that some of the backpack’s weight is distributed not just where the straps hang on the shoulders, but across top of your back (it rests on the spine at the top of the thoracic vertebrae) between the shoulders. While it does seem to help with the fatigue of carrying a heavy backpack (on this last trip I did noticed less soreness than usual in the back muscles, especially between the shoulder blades), it does feel a little “crowded” behind the neck, especially if you’re wearing something with a hood. Bunching fabric aside, the improved ergonomics are worth it.

Now to my favorite part: the pockets!
Inside the largest chamber, there is a padded laptop sleeve. The bottom of padded section is sewn shut a little more than an inch above the actual bottom of the backpack, I guess so that if you set the backpack down, the laptop won’t bang its corner on the ground. It seems that this sleeve is designed for laptops 14 inches or smaller. I keep my 15.6in laptop in its own separate sleeve, and I I’m just barely able to fit my laptop plus its sleeve inside, and I have to “tuck” the corners into the backpack in order to zip it closed. Anything bigger than 15.6 would definitely not fit.

The middle chamber has a zippered pocket, and a couple of slip-in pockets, one for a pen/pencil, one slightly wider, and one about the size of a smallish calculator. I use this section for all my chargers, cables, backup battery, small items, or things that I would need to reach quickly. The bottom of this section only extends halfway down the height of the backpack, so it’s a little shallower than I first thought.

The front chamber is what I believe to be the “insulated” compartment. This pocket extends all the way down to the bottom of the backpack. No additional pockets inside this chamber.

There’s an additional non-zippered pocket in the very front, big enough for a large phone. At the very top of the backpack is a small zippered pocket; I use this one for headphones, keys, cell phone, etc. Also there are two side pockets.

On my most recent flight, I packed my 4lb laptop, phone & tablet, chargers and cables for all devices, a thick men’s hoodie, a pair of winter hiking boots, a pair of dancing heels, my (smallish) purse, a scarf & gloves, headphones, and miscellaneous small items, and probably still could have squeezed in a little more. It was heavy, but thanks to the weight distribution I found myself pretty comfortable throughout a half-day’s worth of cross-country traveling between three airports.

I ordered the “Claudette” color selection, and I’m glad I did. It’s a nice dark forest green with a pattern of ink-drawn flowers, leaves and scrolls. The green is a little darker in person than in the online photo, so the floral pattern doesn’t stand out quite as much, but it looks very good.

I was a little worry at first with buying this backpack. I am in nursing school and I carry a lot, I mean break your back while your arms are fully loaded a lot of stuff. However my lovely Poler stuff backpack was wore down and I needed a new one. So the price, reviews, and the look was what finally got me to buying it. I thought to myself if I didn’t like it amazon is great about returns so why the heck not. To my surprise when I got it I could fill this baby up and have a little room to spare. WHAT WHAT WHAT! I was is utter shock. disbelief. I placed it on my back and it was so delightful to wear – even with 45+ pounds of books. ON TOP OF ALL OF THAT: I can fit a few snacks in the cooler pocket, and I got my self a water-bottle holder that fits a camelbak chute 1000ml, pure bliss.
GET THIS DAMN BAG ALL READY, it has a lifetime warranty, said so on my tags.
