This is NOT your classic camera bag. The protection it gives is rather minimal, and I would not take this along to any rugged outdoor activity. But what it really is good for, is that you put your camera in it and then stick it in a purse, or a (bigger) pocket in a vest or coat, or the like. It is in essence a slim shell to prevent you to carry the camera around without any protection. And as this, it works very well. It fits my Sony NEX-5N with the 18-55 Zoom perfectly, also the same camera with the 50/1.8 lens or the Rokinon 8/2.8 Fisheye. It does not, however fit my NEX-6, independently of the lens attached – this camera is just too big. The only gripe I have with this bag is that it could use a belt loop. I do not have straps attached to my cameras (too much stuff to get in the way …), and to carry this bag on a belt would really help me out here.
Other than that, the bag is made out of a robust material, and the build quality is also very good. All in all, a quite useful accessory, but with room for improvement.

This is a nice little case for a compact DSLR. My micro 4/3 camera fits great in it with the standard lens and it gives it the kind of basic protection I would want from the elements or just hanging around your neck for a while. It is not super padded, but it is enough padding to protect the camera in a backpack. Personally, I was looking for a case like this for my camera and could not find an affordable one. My camera has a button that opens the flash automatically and it would be open in a bag without a case and I would worry about it snapping off. This is the type of bag I would use to prevent that from happening. Not heavy and not bulky. Just right.

It also has a clip to connect to your camera strap to keep the case hanging while taking a picture. This could get annoying, but you don’t have to use it.

I also like the interior pouch for an extra memory card. This is not meant to be a camera case, but a holster (hence the name). That is what it is.

If you don’t want to pay for an expensive camera bag but don’t feel comfortable just tossing your expensive camera in your suitcase or backpack then the Case Logic CHC-101 Day Holster is probably a good solution. As the full product name suggests, this little neoprene protective case is designed for “compact system cameras” such as the compact Olympus Pen series cameras or the Sony NEX.

That being said, this “holster” is only large enough for smaller compact system cameras like the Olympus E-PL3 with kit lens (which barely fits) or one of the smaller prime lenses. I can’t get the Olympus OM-D E-M5 with its kit lens into this holster.

The CHC-101 Day Holster itself only offers basic protection thanks to its thin neoprene construction. Again, it’s not really meant to function as a stand-alone camera case … you just put you camera in this and then put it in your bag or purse. This will protect your camera from getting scratched by your car keys or other random objects in your bag or luggage. However, if you dropped your camera with only this holster around it for protection I’m not sure the camera would be more likely to survive.

Bottom line, if you have an Olympus Pen camera and one of the smaller lenses and want something to protect your camera while it’s inside another bag or purse then the Case Logic CHC-101 makes a decent choice.
