I don’t write a lot of reviews, but I am truly excited about this backpack. I am not a gamer. I’m a businessman and serious photographer. I purchased the ASUS ROG G751JY-DH71 laptop with 17.3-inch 1080p screen for photo editing (and by the way, I highly recommend the ASUS ROG G751JY for photographers that need a powerful fast laptop). However, the large size of the laptop was surprising to me and I was concerned that I might not be able to travel with it. I had no travel bag that would contain it and protect it.

The Nomad backpack seemed a bit price, but I didn’t really see many other choices, so I ordered it, thinking that this bag was designed for the ASUS G751JY, so I would try it. When it arrived I was immediately impressed by the build quality and comfort. But, the real test was when I took it on a business trip this week. I needed to take my company laptop (a 15″ Dell) , but I wanted to edit photos in the evening, so I took my ASUS 17″ laptop as well. The bag held two computers, two power supplies, a large portable GPS, a mouse, two iPhones with chargers and cables, two sets of earphones (blue tooth and wired), a wallet and a spiral notebook and file folder. It has 3 outside pockets and zippered dividers to store things like cables, mouse, business cards, wallet, reading glasses, etc. The outside backpack pockets gave me a place to quickly store things that I needed to remove to go through airport security. In spite of all the items that I put into it, and the resulting weight, the bag was comfortable and did not seem bulky. I was also surprised when it fit nicely beneath the seat on my Southwest flight, with room for my feet. The zippers appear to be strong and the bag is perfectly designed. I could not be more happy.

Works as advertised. What I really like is it’s not too big. It’s barely bigger than my college backpack. However my college backpack is rated for 15″, not 17″.

The problem I have with this backpack is the price. My buddy has an Alienware laptop with a basic backpack and it works just fine and a large part of me wishes I would have done that as well. It is really nice to have this pack though. I’m very happy with it and it’s honestly one of the best backpacks I’ve ever owned. It’s very well built, it’s a quality piece for sure, but I don’t bring my 17″ gaming laptop to places all too often. I do here and there, but not enough to warrant a purchase in excess of $130.

My advice for potential buyers is if you don’t think you’ll use it a lot, go for something cheaper. If you think you’re gonna take it to school, work, train, plane, etc. often enough, go for it. It’s one of the best out there.

I don’t think it’s a good backpack for school though, so I don’t recommend it for school stuff, but it’s definitely good for laptop stuff.

I recently was given (yes as a gift!!) an ASUS G750JW gaming laptop seen here…

    http://www.amazon.com/ASUS-G750JW-DB71-17-3-Inch-Laptop-Black/dp/B00COQIKB4

After much searching, this seemed to be one of the only backpacks able to fit the laptop. There was not a definitive review stating this on any of the other backpacks I was considering. This one is apparently made for the G750 line of laptops. The price is a little steep but I didn’t spend any on the laptop itself. So why not? I ordered it March 17th thinking it would take weeks to be delivered (since there were none in stock). It arrived the same week.

I can tell you, this back DOES fit the ASUS G750XX line of laptops. It is not too snug and you don’t have to work the laptop to fit it like the ASUS Shuttle pack (there is a youtube review of someone putting a G750 in a Shuttle pack). There are plenty of storage options in this pack. I’m not too big on the waist belt but to each their own. I have not taken the pack out yet but it seems quite solid.

My only concern is the pickup handle between the arm straps. It is connected to each arm strap. With the weight of the laptop and other possible items added to the pack, it could become quite heavy. So using this pickup handle heavily would put a lot of strain on the inner support threads of each arm strap. It could potentially rip those out. This is not a definite…I’m only speculating and have made a mental note not to pull this handle with excessive force.

Overall, VERY solid backpack and just right for the G750 line of laptops.
